Zurich residents have been handed a month-long tax deadline extension after the website for making tax declarations was hit by technical problems.
The problems with the online filing system have been occurring since March 15th and have made it difficult for residents to file their tax returns.
The deadline was set to be March 31st but authorities in the canton have agreed to extend it by a month.
The new deadline is April 30th.
In most Swiss cantons, tax returns must be submitted by March 31st, 2025.
However, eight cantons have different deadlines:
- Jura: February 28th (or 29th, in a leap year)
- Bern and Vaud: March 15th
- Neuchâtel: March 29th
- Zug, Ticino, Appenzell Innerrhoden, and Thurgau: April 30th

If you miss your canton’s deadline, you will have to pay a ‘late fee’, the amount of which depends on where you live.
