Much has been said and written about this initiative, instigated by the Swiss People’s Party (SVP) and seeking to cap immigration from the European Union if Switzerland’s population reaches 10 million by 2050.
Many in Switzerland have already voted by post but polling stations will be open for those wanting to cast their vote on Sunday.
Then throughout the day Swiss voters, foreigners and political observers from around the world will be taking a keen interest and tuning in to find out the result and with it, some would argue, the future of the country.

When will we know the result of Switzerland’s ‘No to 10 million’ vote?
We can expect provisional results to start coming through from around midday, with a final result in mid to late-afternoon.
According to the official Swiss government VoteInfo page, “updated interim results” will be updated “continuously” from midday.
Though there’s no definitive time for release, looking at Canton government sources, it seems the final result – at least according to Basel-Stadt – could be released from “approximately 3pm.“
