Applications close Sunday, 17 May.

The European Commission has launched a call for expressions of Interest to participate in the European Bioeconomy Investment Deployment Group, a new platform designed to accelerate funding for sustainable, bio-based innovation.

With a mission to bridge financing gaps, scale up bankable projects, and unlock blended finance solutions, the group will bring together public and private actors to drive Europe’s green transition.

Interested parties must submit their expressions of interest by 17 May to be considered for participation.

The initiative follows the adoption of the Strategic Framework for a Competitive and Sustainable EU Bioeconomy and responds to findings from the European Investment Bank’s report Scaling up Europe’s bio-based industries, which underlined both the significant investment potential of the sector and the persistent financing gap affecting demonstration and first-of-a-kind industrial projects.

The Deployment Group will bring together representatives from the European Commission, the European Investment Bank Group, national promotional banks, commercial banks, private financial institutions and selected investors.

Particular emphasis is being placed on broadening participation from public financial institutions and commercial lenders in order to strengthen the financing ecosystem for bioeconomy projects and improve access to capital across the value chain.

The objective of the platform is to mobilise coordinated public and private investment, strengthen the pipeline of bankable projects, and advance financing solutions, such as blended finance and risk-sharing mechanisms that can help de-risk investments in innovative bio-based technologies and industrial deployment.

Public and private stakeholders active in investment promotion and financing in bio-based industries and related bioeconomy value chains are invited to confirm their interest in joining the initiative by 17 May via ENV-BIOECONOMY-STRATEGY@ec.europa.eu and DEPLOYMENT.GROUP@cbe.europa.eu.

Submitting an expression of interest does not guarantee membership in the Deployment Group. Formal invitations will follow a review process.
