To settle the dispute over wealth sharing within the Venu Srinivasan family, Lakshmi Venu, daughter of Venu Srinivasan and Mallika Srinivasan, is understood to be pushing for a settlement along the lines of the broader TVS family partition in 2020.

Sources close to Lakshmi said that the harmonious partition and settlement between four major wings of the TVS family can be a model to settle the wealth of the Venu Srinivasan group comprising of TVS Motor, Sundaram Clayton, TVS Holdings, and TVS Credit.

In 2020, the larger TVS family comprising multiple branches valued all assets, divided them on a mutually agreeable basis and also compensated family members.

However, this demand has led to an impasse.

According to insiders, Venu Srinivasan and Sudarshan have shown resistance to a formal settlement. “Multiple requests by Lakshmi Venu to her father and brother, Sudarshan, over the last several months have been met with silence,” said a person close to the family. The father-son duo is understood to be of the view that a family settlement was already executed via a 2024 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by all four members.

However, this particular MoU, reviewed by businessline, does not speak of any financial settlement and just lays down details of brand rights and non-compete arrangements.

As per the document, Venu and Sudarshan control automobiles, financial services, real estate and drone business of TVS Holdings, and Venu and Lakshmi control Sundaram-Clayton. Mallika and Lakshmi manage TAFE, which is not part of the TVS group.

The dispute started when Lakshmi came to know of a TVS Holdings statutory filing in April 2025 declaring significant beneficial ownership in favour of Sudarshan Venu.

“Lakshmi was shocked as family wealth cannot be allocated unilaterally without discussion,” the source said. She is not taking legal action yet and continues to try and address this internally, the person added.

businessline has also learnt that Mallika Srinivasan, as the mother of Lakshmi and Sudarshan, is attempting to get the family together for a dialogue and believes that it could be settled within. “She wants this issue to end with a fair and equitable settlement and is in favour of getting a neutral mediator for the purpose ,” a close family source said, adding that there should be no gender disparity in sharing of the family wealth.

The source emphasised that the issue is not just about economic settlement between family members but about ownership and management of the group companies. “Someone who has managed the company, even if he did well, cannot claim ownership over it,” the source said.

Mallika is said to have taken a strong view that a person creating value in the company does not automatically extinguish legal ownership rights of the other.

As of Friday, TVS Holdings had a market cap of ₹23,180 crore, TVS Motor is valued at ₹1,83,621 crore and Sundaram Clayton at around ₹2,702 crore.

None of the Venu Srinivasan family members responded to requests for official comments.
