Barclays Bank warns of the ‘Vox risk’ to Spain’s borrowing costs

Barclays has informed its clients of a so-called “Vox risk” to the cost of Spain’s debt.

The British bank has issued a specific warning to its clients: that the migration and tax policies of a potential PP and Vox government could make it more expensive for the Treasury to raise funds.

Polls suggest the PP and Vox are set for a clear victory.

In light of these forecasts, the bank warns that the implementation of severe anti-immigration measures and sweeping tax cuts could slow down the path to fiscal consolidation.

Spain’s Civil Guard introduces Iratxo, the wild boar

The Guardia Civil has officially introduced Iratxo on social media, a wild boar who is part of the Rural Action Unit (UAR), a command that coordinates elite units such as the Rapid Action Group (GAR), designed to combat terrorism and carry out high-risk operations requiring a rapid response.

The Civil Guard has published a heart-warming photograph showing a uniformed officer alongside Iratxo, standing on her hind legs.

They highlight that although this wild boar is “somewhat stubborn, she adapts to any terrain and always moves forward with a steady stride”.

Half of young Spaniards suffer from anxiety

Half of young Spaniards (49.2 percent) suffer from moderate or severe anxiety, whilst 51.2 percent exhibit moderate or more severe depressive symptoms, such as tiredness, lack of energy or sleep problems, according to a report by the Atalaya Foundation.

Some 32.1 percent of young people aged 15 to 29 exhibit mild symptoms associated with anxiety, compared with 18.7 percent who say they do not experience them, according to the study, which was presented on Monday at the Royal Academy of Medicine in Madrid.

The Atalaya Foundation notes that around four in ten experience symptoms of anxiety, such as nervousness, worry or difficulty relaxing. Severe levels are more prevalent amongst women, those aged 20 to 24 and those living in a low socio-economic context

Fourth day of the teachers’ strike in Madrid sees tensions flare

There were moments of tension on the fourth day of strike by teachers in Madrid on Monday.

According to the CC.OO. trade union, around a thousand protesters gathered outside an event attended by regional head Isabel Díaz Ayuso.

The situation was further complicated by the police, who intervened to clear the area and facilitate the president’s departure. When she finally left the building and got into her official car, the protesters saw her off amid shouts and protests.
