Gujarat reported its first suspected Ebola case on Wednesday after a 37-year-old businessman from Congo and three others — who came in contact with the Congolese man — have been admitted to the Ahmedabad Civil hospital and placed in quarantine.
The man who arrived in Vadodara from Mumbai had developed Ebola-like symptoms including high fever and cold. “Five days ago, this man had come to Mumbai from Congo and later he travelled to Vadodara with two others for business-related work,” Praful Pansheriya, state health minister said adding that the man has been admitted at a special ward to civil hospital for “safety reasons.”
Blood samples have been collected from the quarantined patients and sent for testing. “Till now there is no Ebola case anywhere in Gujarat or India so nobody needs to fear,” the minister added.
“The two others who were accompanying the Congolese man and a doctor have also been quarantined, though these there showed no symptoms of Ebola,” Pansheriya added. Teams from the health department have been deployed at the international airports in the state..
