New Jet2 flight routes will link the southern Spanish city of Jerez de la Frontera with three British cities, good news for the birthplace of sherry after losing its main air link to the UK following Thomas Cook’s closure in 2019.
Recent travel news from Spain has largely been about anti-mass tourism protests and locals telling holidaymakers to ‘stay home’ this summer, but one region in the south of the country wants to welcome British visitors back this summer.
Jet2 has launched new routes between the sherry capital of Jerez and Birmingham, Manchester and Leeds in the UK, starting from this May up until October 31st 2025.
The collapse of the British travel group Thomas Cook in 2019 greatly impacted the Cádiz coast, with far fewer holidaymakers from the UK visiting towns such as Conil, Chiclana, and Rota, where Thomas Cook has agreements with several hotel chains to offer flights and package holidays.
Just under a year ago, Jerez Airport put in their bid to host a charter airline operated by another British operator.
The result are new connection with Birmingham, Manchester and Leeds, operated by Jet2, which will strengthen the province’s international connectivity and enable more hotels and tourism companies to flourish once again.
During the peak season, it is thought that the new flight will provide a significant economic boost to the Cádiz coastline.

Jerez de la Frontera sits at one corner of Spain’s Sherry Triangle and is one of the best spots in the country to sample it at one of the city’s tabancos (special sherry bars).
There are also several famous bodegas to tour and learn all about how sherry is made. Besides its amber liquid, Jerez is famed for flamenco and horses.

Flamenco performances often take place in some of the city’s tabancos such as El Pasaje, while the best place to see the graceful Andalusian horses is the Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art. Make sure to book a show, where the animals show off their skills by almost seeming to dance.
And if you want to see it all, plan your trip in time for the Feria del Caballo, held this year from May 17th to 24th, a traditional Andalusian fair combining horses, flamenco, and of course sherry.

According to the airline’s forecasts, around 15,000 British tourists are expected to visit Jerez de la Frontera and its surrounding areas this summer.
Jet2 plans to add another new route in 2026 connecting Jerez to London-Stansted with the goal of doubling British tourist arrivals to 30,000.
