The southwest monsoon is expected to bring heavy rainfall in parts of Luzon and the Visayas until Thursday, raising the risk of flooding and landslides, especially in areas that have already received significant rainfall, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Monday.
In its 5:00 p.m. weather advisory, PAGASA said 100 to 200 millimeters (mm) of rainfall is expected in Zambales from Monday to Tuesday afternoon, a level that may bring flooding and landslides in affected areas.
Pangasinan, Tarlac, Pampanga, Bataan, Cavite, Batangas, Occidental Mindoro, and Antique may receive 50 to 100 mm of rainfall during the same period, which may cause flooding, particularly in low-lying areas.
From Tuesday afternoon to Wednesday afternoon, 50 to 100 mm of rainfall is expected in Isabela, Aurora, Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, Batangas, and Occidental Mindoro.
More areas are expected to experience heavy rainfall from Wednesday afternoon to Thursday afternoon, with Occidental Mindoro forecast to receive 100 to 200 mm of rain, while 50 to 100 mm is expected in several areas in Luzon, the Visayas, and Palawan.
These include Pangasinan, La Union, Benguet, Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino, Aurora, Zambales, Bataan, Tarlac, Pampanga, Nueva Ecija, Bulacan, Metro Manila, Rizal, Cavite, Batangas, Laguna, Quezon, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Albay, Catanduanes, Aklan, and Antique.
PAGASA said rainfall may be higher in mountainous and elevated areas, while significant rainfall in previous days may worsen the impacts in some areas.
The state weather bureau warned of possible flooding and landslides in affected areas, particularly those in high-risk areas. — Edg Adrian A. Eva
