The SEC invites public feedback on proposed amendments to investment analysts’ refresher courses, designed to better align training with job responsibilities, set clear standards, and address the needs of current trainees. The amendments will take effect on July 1, 2025.
The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is seeking public comments on proposed amendments to the regulations on refresher courses for investment analysts (IA) to improve the overall refresher process, making it more appropriate and aligned with IA roles and responsibilities.
The SEC proposes to revise the IA refresher course regulations to enhance their knowledge review criteria to be more appropriate and serve the needs of their roles and responsibilities. A previous public hearing on this matter showed that the majority of respondents agreed with the proposed amendments and provided additional useful suggestions. The SEC has therefore reviewed the principles and drafted relevant regulations, with the key points as follows:
(1) To revise the refresher criteria for IA to include a minimum number of training hours required for the course, in alignment with the roles of IA;
(2) To designate the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET), which is recognized by the SEC and acts as the central agency, to define the scope of knowledge and training standards and approve the refresher course for IA renewal, ensuring common standards across the industry;
(3) To establish transitional provisions to accommodate the refresher course training for IA who have already started training under the current criteria, including the full course training for IA who have missed renewal and wish to seek re-approval.
It is expected that the above amendments will take effect from 1 July 2025.
