SBI Funds Management shares made a strong debut on Tuesday and scaled nearly 9 per cent above the IPO price to an intraday high amid strong investor demand.

The stock listed at a 6.8 per cent premium on the NSE at ₹613.30 against the IPO price of ₹574. The stock then scaled to an intraday high of ₹624.90.

On the BSE, the shares debuted at a 6.2 per cent premium at ₹610.

Shivani Nyati, Head of Wealth at Swastika Investmart Ltd, emphasised that the company’s long-term investment story remains strong, citing its leadership in the asset management industry, SBI-backed brand, large distribution network, scalable asset-light business model and relatively comfortable valuation compared to peers.

Nyati said IPO allottees can continue to hold the stock over a long-term perspective, while fresh investors may consider accumulating on dips. For short-term traders, she suggested maintaining a stop-loss around ₹585-590. Overall, she said the outlook remains positive, and the stock is suitable for long-term investors looking to benefit from growing mutual fund industry in India.

The ₹9,813 crore IPO was subscribed 41.66 times overall, led by strong demand from qualified institutional buyers (QIBs).

The QIB portion was subscribed 140.11 times, while the non-institutional investors (NIIs) category saw subscription of 22.51 times. The retail investor segment was subscribed 3.60 times. The employee portion was subscribed 4.65 times, while the shareholders portion was booked 9.52 times.

Ahead of the public issue, SBI Funds Management raised ₹2,663 crore from anchor investors.

The issue comprised a total issue size of ₹9,812.91 crore, entirely an offer-for-sale (OFS) of 17.09 crore equity shares by State Bank of India and Amundi, and did not include any fresh issue component. The IPO was priced in the range of ₹545 to ₹574 per equity share.

The issue size was initially proposed at ₹11,693 crore but was subsequently reduced after the company completed a pre-IPO placement of around ₹1,880 crore.
