Two months after the police investigation began, Brand was interviewed under caution for the first time. He was interviewed on two further occasions in the following months.

In each interview he provided officers with a prepared statement, which said he did not recognise the complainants or recall the alleged incidents and that if any sexual activity had taken place, it would have been consensual. He then answered “no comment” to the officers’ questions.

Charges were brought against Brand in early April 2025: one count of rape, one count of oral rape, two charges of sexual assault and one allegation of indecent assault. The final charge would later be changed to attempted indecent assault at his trial.

The charges all related to women who had come forward since the initial Channel 4 documentary.

The following month he appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court, in London. He was swarmed by camera crews, so much so that it took him more than two minutes to walk the short distance to the court door. At a later court hearing he pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Meanwhile, women continued to come forward with more allegations.

In July 2025, Brand was interviewed for a fourth time before being charged with further offences: one count of rape and one count of sexual assault. He also denied those allegations.

And then on 14 October 2026, accompanied by his wife Laura, the actor and comedian entered the glass dock at London’s Southwark Crown Court for the start of his trial.
