Former New York mayor and key Trump ally Rudy Giuliani has been hospitalized, a spokesperson announced Sunday on X.

Giuliani, who will turn 82 later this month, is in critical but stable condition, spokesperson Ted Goodman wrote. President Donald Trump blamed his condition on the Democratic opponents Giuliani accrued while working as Trump’s personal lawyer.

“What a tragedy that he was treated so badly by the Radical Left Lunatics, Democrats ALL — AND HE WAS RIGHT ABOUT EVERYTHING!” Trump wrote on Truth Social Sunday. “They cheated on the Elections, fabricated hundreds of stories, did anything possible to destroy our Nation, and now, look at Rudy. So sad!”

Giuliani gained national attention and fame while serving as New York City’s mayor in the aftermath of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. But his public profile was tarnished by his work on behalf of the president. Giuliani faced major consequences for his efforts to overturn the 2020 election after Trump’s defeat to former President Joe Biden. He was disbarred in Washington, D.C. and New York, criminally charged in Arizona and Georgia and successfully sued to the tune of nearly $150 million for defamation against two Georgia election workers.

Last year, Trump awarded Giuliani the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

“Mayor Giuliani is a fighter who has faced every challenge in his life with unwavering strength, and he’s fighting with that same level of strength as we speak,” Goodman wrote. “We do ask that you join us in prayer for America’s Mayor Rudy Giuliani.”
