FCNR(B) deposits contribute $65.4 billion

Of the total $72.848 billion mobilised under the facility, FCNR(B) deposits accounted for $65.397 billion. OFCBs contributed $4.860 billion, while ECBs brought in $2.591 billion.

FCNR(B) deposits therefore accounted for nearly 90% of the total forex inflows reported under the facility, highlighting their dominant contribution to the mobilisation of foreign currency resources.

The RBI had introduced the special USD-INR forex swap facility on June 8, 2026. The facility covers inflows through FCNR(B) deposits, ECBs and OFCBs.

FCNR(B) window closes on August 31

The RBI said the facility will remain open for FCNR(B) deposits until August 31, 2026. This gives banks and eligible participants a limited window to mobilise additional foreign currency deposits under the scheme.

In contrast, the facility covering ECBs and OFCBs will remain open until December 31, 2026, providing a longer period for inflows through these borrowing channels.

The latest data provide a snapshot of the foreign exchange resources mobilised through the facility ahead of the closure of the FCNR(B) window.

Total inflows cross $72 billion

The $72.848 billion total includes all three categories covered by the RBI facility. FCNR(B) deposits at $65.397 billion were substantially higher than the combined inflows through OFCBs and ECBs, which stood at $7.451 billion.

The data were released by the RBI on August 22, 2026, under Press Release 2026-2027/948.

The central bank’s figures represent inflows reported by authorised dealer banks as of August 21 and do not provide a further breakdown of individual banks or the specific terms of the transactions.
