West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will inaugurate the new campus of IT bellwether Infosys in Kolkata on Wednesday.

“Infosys started its operations earlier this year on 17.5-acre of its new campus at Kolkata’s New Town. The company will gradually expand its operations in the new campus. The Chief Minister will formally inaugurate the new campus,” said a government source.

Infosys has around 50 acres of land at its New Town campus in the city. Senior company officials will be present during the campus’s inauguration.

Infosys started a recruitment drive for the new campus earlier this year. “The company has already recruited around 2000 employees. It is likely to employ a total of 4000 people very soon,” the source told businessline.

The company’s move to open the software development centre in Kolkata is part of its localisation programme. Its aim is to have centres closer to the available talent pool in different cities in India so that employees don’t have to travel to other cities for their work, allowing them greater flexibility.
