Amid ongoing drought conditions, forecasts suggest Switzerland will have a week of summery weather to end the month.
Switzerland is braced for a late-September heatwave with temperatures hitting the late-20s, forecasts show.
The hot snap is predicted to begin from Saturday 26th when the mercury will soar towards 30C, particularly in the Basel region, and forecast to last well into the following week.

Across large parts of the country, cities like Basel (28C), Geneva (26C) and Zurich (25C) will see summery temperatures unusual for September in Switzerland.
“Temperatures of 25 to 27 degrees at the end of September are definitely very remarkable,” meteorologist Peter Wick told 20 Minuten.
September in Switzerland has already been abnormally hot and sunny, very dry, and around three to five degrees warmer than usual. Wick’s conclusion, therefore, is that: “Summer isn’t really coming back – it’s still here”.
Looking at forecasts from Switzerland’s state meteorologist, Meteo Suisse, from Saturday 26th temperatures will rise to the mid and late-twenties, lasting until Thursday 1st October, when rain is forecast in large parts of the country.

This comes as Switzerland suffers severe drought conditions. According to MeteoSwiss, Switzerland is currently missing about three months worth of rain. September could be one of the ten driest months on record.
