Four people were injured, one of them seriously, when an explosion ripped through an apartment in the Swiss canton on Neuchâtel on Tuesday.
“An explosion took place around noon in an apartment in a residential building,” said Georges-Andre Lozouet, a spokesperson for the cantonal police.
“Four people were injured, including one seriously, who was taken by helicopter to the hospital,” he added.
A video published by Swiss public broadcaster RTS showed flames and thick, black smokepouring from the windows of a first-floor apartment, with significant damage to the lower part of the residential building’s facade.
Lozouet said the cause of the explosion remained unclear.
The fire that followed had been successfully extinguished, he said, but the area remained cordoned off mid-afternoon.
