Dozens of members of a far-right group gathered in central Madrid late Saturday, some of them trying to reach the protest camp calling for housing reforms, AFP journalists witnessed.
Some of the group performed Nazi salutes and police formed lines to head off those who tried to reach the Plaza del Sol where protesters have been camped for the last week calling for reforms to Spain’s housing laws.
One video posted on the website of Spanish daily El Pais showed police chasing some members of the group through the streets after they tried to get access to the camp, set up in the touristic heart of central Madrid.

Among the far-right groups present was Nucleo Nacional, which came to prominence during the 2024 protests against the socialist government of Pedro Sanchez.
Earlier Saturday, tens of thousands of activists marched in Madrid and cities across the country in demonstrations calling for affordable housing, a day after lawmakers rejected relief measures for tenants put forward by Sanchez’s government.
