ElevenLabs plans to expand its forward-deployed engineering (FDE) team in India tenfold as the voice AI company scales. Alongside, it looks to establish an India office by the end of this year.

India is ElevenLabs’ second largest market, outside of the US. The company now works with more than 250 businesses and enterprises across India. Indian businesses recorded 100 million conversations on ElevenAgents over the past year, with more than 70 per cent of them in Hindi, Kannada, Tamil, and Telugu. Over 25,000 Indian developers and businesses are actively building with its API each month, up roughly 2.5x over the past year.

“India is strategic for the company. We’ve tripled our book of business since the start of this year. Our teams have crossed functions and grown manifold, and we continue to double down on our goal of getting $100 million in revenue as soon as possible,” said Karthik Rajaram, General Manager, India, ElevenLabs.

The company is also expanding its enterprise focus as customers move from experimenting with voice AI to deploying agents in production, Rajaram said.

In India, ElevenLabs works with companies across banking and financial services, fintech, consumer technology and edtech.

Increasing Investment

Moreover, the company recently closed a $300 million employee tender offer that values it at $22 billion, double its valuation at its Series D in February.

Rajaram said ElevenLabs is increasing its investment in India, including in talent, data residency and engineering capabilities, as it targets regulated industries and larger enterprise accounts.

“In India, our FDE team is critical because while we have phenomenal technology and platform models, at the end of the day, we have to move the metric for customers. We have to ensure somebody is working closely with them to unblock those levers,” he said.

Rajaram added the team is expected to grow tenfold, with further hiring likely through the rest of the year.

Public Sector Strategy

Alongside its commercial expansion, ElevenLabs is building a public-sector go-to-market strategy in India, with government adoption, citizen services and last-mile access among the potential use cases.

Nihal Chauhan, public sector partnerships, APAC, ElevenLabs, said voice AI could help government agencies improve access to services, particularly in a multilingual country such as India.

The company, on the sidelines of its first India Summit today in Bengaluru announced a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Karnataka Innovation and Technology Society (KITS) to advance its adoption of voice AI.

“The MOU has three pillars. One focuses on a voice AI safety framework. We have provided the state government with a company-agnostic framework, and this is something we want to take to any government or public-sector entity we work with.”

Commercial Initiatives

Chauhan added that ElevenLabs aims to be a trusted partner to the government, reflecting its long-term commitment to India. The company is looking to deepen its engagement across stakeholders, including through its commercial initiatives.

ElevenLabs wants to work with ministries and public-sector entities at both the central and state levels where voice AI can be applied.

“We are looking at more of such MOUs. We want to work with every ministry that can benefit from Voice AI both at the central and the state level, since India’s scale is massive,” he said.

The company’s India push comes alongside the event launch of Eleven V4, its most emotive text-to-speech model yet.
