Just in time for government’s reply to Cockroach Janata Party, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigned on Saturday .
“I have sent my resignation letter to the Prime Minister,” Pradhan said in a two-page letter, posted on the social media. He said he does not want anti national forces to take advantage of situations caused in the country and at the Jantar Mantar (the protest sight in the Central Delhi). “The country continues to be united, future of not a single student should be tangled in litigations, our children should focus on study and career,” he said while explaining reasons behind his resignation.
On Friday, government interlocutors, Union Ministers JP Nadda and Jitendra Singh, held discussions with Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) leaders, including spokespersons Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, at the Constitution Club in an attempt to end the month-long dharna at Jantar Mantar. “We conveyed in very clear terms that nothing short of Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation or his removal from the Union Cabinet would be acceptable,” Ranka had told reporters after the meeting.
CJP leaders described the demand for Pradhan’s resignation as “non-negotiable” and warned that the agitation would intensify if the government refused to act. From the government’s side Nadda said the Centre had “heard their points” and would respond in subsequent rounds of talks. The government had said that it will respond by 2 pm on Saturday and Pradhan posted his letter announcing resignation at 2.18 pm.
