If you’re hoping for the extremely hot and dry weather in Switzerland to be over, you may be in luck – though the relief could be temporary.
Temperatures reaching the high-30s, most of the regions suffering from a worsening drought, and a danger of wildfires at a high level.
That’s been the situation in Switzerland for the past few weeks, impacting on many aspects of life in the country from health, infrastructure, and arid agricultural areas.

Between rain and heat
The best way to describe the meteorological situation in Switzerland this week would be capricious or unpredictable.
At least, that’s what the experts forecast.
According to Roger Perret from MeteoNews weather service, “Tuesday, July 14th will mark the last day of the current heatwave in the east, with partly sunny weather, while in the west and south the heat wave will continue through Thursday.”
However, the likelihood of showers and thunderstorms will increase from Monday evening, he added.
“After that, through Sunday, there will be occasional downpours and thunderstorms amid generally partly sunny and very warm – or, at the beginning, still hot – weather, but the system is unlikely to dissipate. It remains to be seen whether this precipitation will provide any relief from the current drought.”
As a general rule, though any rain is better than none to counter the drought, sustained rainfall over many days is needed to properly penetrate the soil’s deeper levels.
