BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 15. Central Asian
countries have ambitious plans for achieving collective and
regional sustainability and environmental security in the future,
Vice Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan Ilyas Bakytzhan said during
the Ministerial Dialogue on Promoting the Energy Transition Based
on Renewable Energy in Central Asia, Trend reports.
“Our countries have ambitious plans for achieving collective and
regional sustainability and environmental security in the future.
On the sidelines of COP29, we successfully announced the
implementation of major intergovernmental projects in the field of
green energy development.
In particular, the Presidents of Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, and
Uzbekistan signed an intergovernmental agreement on the
construction of a deep-water cable across the Caspian Sea. This is
the largest regional project, which will contribute to creating the
infrastructure for exporting green energy to Europe in the future,”
he added.
The 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN
Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) opened on November
11. COP29, which is being held at the Baku Olympic Stadium, will
continue until November 22. It is the largest event organized by
Azerbaijan to date, and the first time in the region that it is
being held in Azerbaijan.
The key expectation from COP29 is to agree on a fair and
ambitious New Collective Quantified Goal (NCQG) on climate
finance.
A total of 14 initiatives have been put forward by the COP29
Chairmanship.
