Woman in Spain receives landmark compensation payment for obstetric violence, Spanish government approves 37,000 public sector jobs and more news from Spain this Wednesday May 6th.

Woman in Spain receives landmark compensation payment

Andrea Tellez has received one of the largest ever payouts of €13.3 million for the obstetric violence she suffered during childbirth seven years ago, which caused irreparable harm to her son.

During the delivery, the obstetrician decided to induce labour using a vacuum extractor. “They decided to induce labour and broke my water; they tried every way to get him out,” she said.

These actions meant that when her son was born he had stopped breathing and his heart had stopped beating. Although doctors managed to resuscitate him, he was born with irreparable physical damage.
