Zurich Airport introduces a new, more generous ‘liquid rule’; Swiss teachers call for heat protection for public school students; and more news in our Tuesday roundup.

Zurich Airport introduces a more generous liquid allowance

Until now, passengers have not been allowed to transport more than 100 ml of liquids in their carry-on luggage.

From Friday June 26th, however, travellers departing from Zurich airport will be able to bring up to two litres of liquid into the cabin thanks to the introduction of new scanners.

“There is no longer any need to place liquid containers in a separate plastic bag,” the airport said. “This accelerates the screening process and provides a noticeable increase in passenger comfort.”

But not all passengers will be able to benefit from this new, laxer regulation.

The rule only concerns travellers who pass through the main security control building, and does not include those in transit.

Teachers are calling for ‘heat protection’ in classrooms

Given the extremely hot weather of the past week – and more of the same still to come – the Swiss Teachers’ Federation (LCH) is asking the federal government to establish, together with cantonal authorities, legally binding minimum standards for heat protection in public schools.

The LCH is proposing an upper limit of 26C indoors; once this temperature is exceeded, however, classes should be moved to cooler rooms.

And they should be suspended altogether once the 30C threshold is passed, the Federation said.

Swisscom is strengthening protection against spam calls

By introducing a new “Caution: Suspected Spam” indicator, the country’s largest telecom is helping customers identify potential advertising and fraudulent calls quicker, the company said in a press release  on Monday.

Swisscom had already introduced its “call filter” in 2016, which has been blocking around eight million spam calls every month for the past decade..

The range of functions is now being expanded, however, and will be automatically available to all Swisscom customers.

A ‘snow train’ operates in the summer as well

The Verbier Express, which transports skiers between Geneva Airport and Le Châble (Valais) in the winter, is now running on this route each Sunday throughout summer as well.

Specifically, two trains depart Geneva Airport one hour apart – at 6:30 and 8:30 am. They pass Geneva, Coppet, Nyon, Gland, Rolle, Allaman, Morges, Renens, Lausanne, Vevey, Montreux, Villeneuve, Aigle, Bex, Saint-Maurice, and Martigny, before arriving Le Châble at 8:52 and 10:52 am, respectively.

The return journey is at 3:57 or 4:57 p., arriving at the airport at 6:30 and 7:30 pm, respectively,
