Having beaten both Bosnia and Canada so far, Switzerland will play Algeria in the next round of the World Cup on July 3rd. Where can you watch this, and other FIFA World Cup games, in the comfort of your home?
There’s good news for football fans in Swizerland: all World Cup matches are broadcast free of charge, unlike in many other countries, where fans can watch only some matches without paying extra.
This is where you can catch the games on your TV:
SRF: the German-language public broadcaster is airing most of the matches on its second channel, SRF2, and a few on SRF Info.
If two matches are being played simultaneously at night, SRF will only broadcast one of them.
RTS: Like its sister SRF, the public television channel in the French-speaking regions, RTS is trasmitting games on the second channel, RTS2, and some on RTS Info.
Here too, when two are taking simultaneously during the night, RTS will only broadcast one live.
RSI: The situation is the same with RSI, the Italian language station which, like the other two is owned by the Swiss Broadcasting Corporation: games will be shown on RSI2 and RSI Info, with the sane system for nighttime games.
All the games are also streamed also on the public channels’ apps and websites – including the matches that are not broadcast on conventional live TV due to more than one match occurring simultaneously.
Where else can you see the games live in television?
You can watch them on subscription TV via Swisscom, Sunrise, and Quickline, as well as in internet TV – Zattoo and Teleboy.
Ditto for all the foreign channels available in Switzerland:
In German
ARD and ZDF: The two German public broadcasters are transmitting a total of 60 matches, each airing 30, including the final.
ORF: The Austrian broadcaster will show 52 matches live.
Servus TV: The private Austrian station will broadcast the 52 matches not shown by ORF.
In French:
M6: The French private channel is broadcasting 52 World Cup matches. Therefore, one out of every two matches is available on M6.
In English
If you have access to BBC and ITV, you can follow the games with English commentary.
What time are these games shown on TV in Switzerland?
They take place at different times: some games are broadcast in the middle of the night due to the time difference.
However, all three group matches in which the Swiss national team (‘Nati’) plays kick off at 9 pm. Swiss time.
