Woman in Spain receives landmark compensation payment
Andrea Tellez has received one of the largest ever payouts of €13.3 million for the obstetric violence she suffered during childbirth seven years ago, which caused irreparable harm to her son.
During the delivery, the obstetrician decided to induce labour using a vacuum extractor. “They decided to induce labour and broke my water; they tried every way to get him out,” she said.
These actions meant that when her son was born he had stopped breathing and his heart had stopped beating. Although doctors managed to resuscitate him, he was born with irreparable physical damage.

Spanish government approves 37,000 public sector jobs
The government recently approved the public employment offer for 2026. This is the list of civil servant and contract positions that the Executive considers necessary to meet staffing needs.
This year it includes total of 37,017 positions, 429 more than those included in last year’s offer, and focuses particularly on profiles related to new technologies.
Specialists in AI, cybersecurity, and data science have been included for the first time.
Spain demands release of activist after Israel extends detention
Spain on Tuesday renewed a demand for the “immediate release” of a Spanish activist who participated in a Gaza-bound aid flotilla and is held in Israel after his detention was extended until Sunday.
Spain’s consul in Tel Aviv will continue to visit Saif Abu Keshek, “providing full protection and in permanent contact with his family”, foreign ministry sources said. “The government of Spain demands his immediate release and that all his rights be respected.”
Three people arrested accused of mistreating 15 children at a nursery in Jaén
Spain’s National Police have arrested the director and two teaches at a children’s preschool in the Andalusian province of Jaén for alleged mistreatment of 15 children.
Agents belonging to the Provincial Brigade of the Judicial Police of Jaén opened the investigation after complaints made by several students who were interns there.
According to information released by the National Police on Tuesday, the complaints were mainly centred around mealtimes, when teachers allegedly forced the children to eat, sometimes even causing them to vomit and then continue eating again.
Arsenal beat Atlético Madrid to reach Champions League final
Bukayo Saka scored the only goal of the game as Arsenal beat Atlético Madrid 1-0 on Tuesday to progress to the Champions League final.
The Gunners, who secured a 2-1 semi-final aggregate victory, will face either title-holders Paris Saint-Germain or Bayern Munich in only their second appearance in the final of Europe’s premier club competition.
