Tamil Nadu Assembly Election Results 2026 LIVE Updates: Tamil Nadu Assembly elections were held on April 23, 2026, and vote counting begins today (May 4). Along with Tamil Nadu, counting of votes for Assam, Keralam, Puducherry, and West Bengal also commences today which you can follow here. 

Points to remember for TN election:

Total seats: 234 (118 needed for majority).

Major contenders:

  • SPA: DMK + Congress + VCK + Left parties
  • NDA: AIADMK + BJP + PMK
  • TVK (independent contender)
  • NTK and others

Election Schedule:

April 9 — Kerala, Puducherry, and Assam (single phase)

April 23 — Tamil Nadu (single phase) and West Bengal Phase I

April 29 — West Bengal Phase II

Voter Turnout:

A late Saturday night release from the Election Commission of India said that 4,87,98,833 votes were polled in Tamil Nadu. Of these, 2,52,59,596 were female voters, 2,35,34,720 were male voters and 4,517 were transgender voters. The total voter turnout stood at 85.10 per cent.

Many exit polls had predicted a return of DMK alliance to power.
