Here’s what to know about this oddsboard:
The Favorites: Since the inception of the College Football Playoff 12 years ago, the Ducks have made the field three times. They were the No. 1 seed once in those three years, back in 2014-15 — the first year of the 12-team Playoff. Oregon was the national title runner-up that first year, lost in the quarterfinals in 2024-25, and lost in the semifinals last season. Fun fact: Every CFP defeat for the Ducks has come against the eventual national champion. It was Ohio State two seasons ago, Indiana last season, and as mentioned, the Ducks lost to OSU in the title game back in 2014-15.
What Does No. 1 Mean?: How has the 1-seed fared in the CFP over the years? The top-seeded team has won five of the 12 Playoffs, including last year’s winner Indiana. However, those five titles only came in the last seven years. The No. 1 seed did not win the CFP for the first five years, until Joe Burrow’s LSU Tigers broke the streak in 2019-20.
