College football news is nonstop, and we’re breaking it all down week by week this season.
Here’s the latest on what’s happening around college football entering Week 10:
Head coach Kenny Dillingham revealed on Oct. 31 that his starting quarterback will miss the remainder of the season due to “surgery on something that has been lingering.” Leavitt, a redshirt sophomore, totaled 1,628 passing yards, 10 passing touchdowns, three interceptions and a 129.2 passer rating this season, while completing 60.7% of his passes in seven games. He also rushed for 300 yards and five touchdowns. Leavitt missed Week 7 due to a foot injury. Coming off an appearance in the College Football Playoff, the Sun Devils are 5-3 this season.
Texas QB Arch Manning progressing but “uncertain” for Saturday
Manning was “making good progress” in practice, head coach Steve Sarkisian said on Oct. 30, but his status to return from a concussion in time to play against No. 9 Vanderbilt is still uncertain. Manning has been in concussion protocol since being injured at the beginning of overtime in then-No. 20 Texas’ 45-38 win over Mississippi State last week. Backup QB Matthew Caldwell, a graduate transfer from Troy, came on to throw the game-winning touchdown, as Texas rallied from 17 points down in the fourth quarter. Manning spent this week in concussion protocol and returned to practice on Oct. 29. He was listed as questionable on the team’s injury report to the SEC that night.
Indiana expects LB Aiden Fisher to be available this weekend
It is “probable” that Fisher will be available for Saturday’s game at Maryland, head coach Curt Cignetti said earlier this week. Fisher has been a key cog in the Hoosiers’ historic turnaround, and he jump-started last weekend’s 56-6 blowout over UCLA by returning an interception 25 yards for a touchdown on the second play of the game. He departed after injuring his left knee on the Bruins’ next series and spent the rest of the game on the sideline wearing a protective brace on the knee. This season, Fisher ranks second among Indiana players in tackles (49) and sixth in tackles for loss (seven). He also has 2.5 sacks, one interception and four quarterback hits.
Fisher was one of the players who followed Cignetti from James Madison to Indiana after the 2023 season and earned first-team All-Big Ten honors last year. He opened this season as a second-team preseason All-American selection.
