An analysis of petrol and diesel prices shows that filling up doesn’t cost the same everywhere in Switzerland. It is often cheapest at small gas stations in rural areas.

The new ‘gasoline price radar,‘ released by the motoring organisation TCS, allows motorists to see in real time how much fuel costs in their area.

It also shows where it is cheapest and most expensive – a useful piece of information for those driving outside of their immediate area.

These are the findings:

Cheapest Unleaded 95

The cheapest gasoline of this type can usually be found at the Neubrück Café-Bar station in Brügg (Bern).

At this station in the Biel/Bienne area, a litre costs an average of just 1.52 francs.

The second-cheapest Unleaded 95 is sold at Voegtlin-Meyer AG in Matzendorf (Solothurn) at 1.53 francs per litre. Gasoline was equally cheap at the Freie Tankstelle (Independent Gas Station) in Langenthal (Bern).

Most Expensive Unleaded 95

At the other end of the price scale is the station in the Talgarten parking garage in the city of Zurich, where a litre of unleaded 95 costs an average of 2.37 francs – the same price as at the BP highway service station in Coldrerio (Ticino), close to the Italian border.

Petrol is only one centime cheaper, (2.35 francs), at the Shell Autostrada Süd station in Monte Carasso, a district of Bellinzona, also located on the A2 motorway.

This station also sells the most expensive unleaded 98, averaging 2.76 francs per litre. Following close behind (2.66 francs) is its counterpart on the opposite side of the motorway, the Shell Autostrada Nord station in Bellinzona, as well as the aforementioned BP station in Coldrerio at 2.57 francs.

Cheapest Unleaded 98

However, there is also inexpensive unleaded 98-grade gasoline available in the canton of Ticino.

It costs just 1.36 francs at the Collina d’Oro garage in the municipality of the same name located near Lugano.

At the Agrola station in Pfäffikon (Schwyz), the price is 1.42 francs, and it costs 1.59 francs at the Mercedes-Benz garage station in Aarau-Rohr.

Cheapest Diesel

Those driving diesel vehicles should head to the MP Biodiesel station in Domdidier (Fribourg), where a litre cost an average of only 1.59 francs.

The second-lowest diesel is at the above-mentioned Station Neubrück in Brügg.

Most Expensive Diesel

Ticino appears to be most expensive for drivers of diesel vehicles.

At the Eni station in Piotta, for instance, a litre costs 2.46 francs. Following behind were the BP and Eni stations in Coldrerio, where diesel cost 2.44 and 2.43 francs, respectively.
