The first day of the spring season, the so-called Vernal Equinox, won’t happen until March 20th, but you wouldn’t know it by the weather forecast for Switzerland the rest of the week.

This last week of February, “will be dominated by a high-pressure system extending from the western Mediterranean to the Alps. This ridge of high pressure will bring very mild air from the southwest to our region,” according to the forecast by Switzerland’s official weather service, MeteoSchweiz.

In simple terms, this means that the weather for at least the rest of the week will be sunny and unseasonably warm.

Temperatures in the double digits

“Temperatures will be very mild in the afternoon, often reaching or exceeding 15C, though  highs approaching 20C are possible, particularly in the northern Jura Mountains, Valais, and the Basel region,” MeteoSchweiz reports.

This mild weather will also be noticeable in the mountains, where the snow line will rise to over 3,200 metres.

It is not certain how this warm wave will affect ski resorts in the coming days.

What’s ahead?

According to this MeteoSchweiz map, double-digits temperature will persist, in most parts of Switzerland, into the weekend and the beginning of next week.
