Ukrainian soldier thought to be dead calls his family

This is the moment Nazar Daletskyi’s family found out that their relative, who was thought to have died fighting as a Ukrainian soldier in the first year of Russia’s full-scale invasion, was in fact alive.

They were told he had died in September 2022 and a few months later they received a body that they believed was his and buried him in their home region of Lviv in western Ukraine.

A few months ago, some of his fellow soldiers told his mother Nataliya they thought he was alive and on Thursday he was released as part of a prisoner exchange of soldiers and civilians between Ukraine and Russia.
