Reliance Industries, in a joint venture with Brookfield Corporation and Digital Realty, will invest 11 billion dollars over five years to build 1 gigawatt of AI data centre capacity in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. The project will span 400 acres and aims to create an AI-native data hub. This comes amid a global AI boom, with companies like Google also expanding AI infrastructure in Visakhapatnam. India’s data centre capacity is expected to more than triple to 4.5 gigawatts by 2030.

Cabinet approves Rs 7,280 crore Rare Earth Permanent Magnets scheme to enhance self-reliance, promote REPM ecosystem

The Union Cabinet has approved a 7,280 crore rupee scheme to promote manufacturing of Sintered Rare Earth Permanent Magnets in India. The plan aims to set up 6,000 metric tons per year of production, supporting electric vehicles, renewable energy, electronics, aerospace, and defence. By boosting domestic REPM manufacturing, India hopes to reduce imports, strengthen supply chains, and advance its Net Zero 2070 goals.

India’s crude oil imports from Russia in November 2025 hit a monthly record

India’s crude oil imports from Russia reached a record 1.9 million barrels per day in November 2025, ahead of US sanctions on Rosneft and Lukoil taking effect on November 21. Imports are expected to dip temporarily after the sanctions but remain supported by discounts on Russian crude. Indian refiners are pivoting to non-sanctioned entities and alternative suppliers to maintain supply, keeping Russian oil a cost-competitive option.

Trade unions hold nationwide protests; submit memorandum to President Murmu opposing labour codes, trade pacts

Workers and farmers across India protested against the Centre’s four labour codes and “anti-farmer” policies, submitting a joint memorandum to President Droupadi Murmu. Unions criticised the codes for weakening labour rights, while farmers demanded MSP guarantees and protection of APMC markets.
