September 7 marks five years in detention for Maryya Kalesnikava, a Belarusian activist who was jailed during a brutal crackdown on mass protests over a disputed 2020 election. Kalesnikava’s sister, Tatsiana Homich, says Western pressure on Minsk gives hope her sibling may soon be released.
