A key power transmission substation for Aramco Stadium in Al-Khobar, one of the 15 stadiums to be used for the 2034 FIFA World Cup in Saudi Arabia, has now been completed.

This was announced by the Saudi Electricity Company (SEC), highlighting its critical role in supporting energy infrastructure for major projects and ensuring facility readiness for global events.

The SEC stated that the project will enhance the stability and efficiency of the power supply to the stadium, ensuring operational readiness during sporting events and peak periods as Saudi Arabia advances its preparations to host football’s showpiece event.

The scope of work included building a 115/13.8-kV substation and linking it to the grid through more than 2.4 kilometres of underground cables. It also integrated advanced protection and operating systems, including supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) and communications systems.

The project was delivered in 18 months, in line with approved technical and regulatory requirements. It was carried out through National Grid SA, the executive arm of Saudi Arabia’s electricity transmission system, under the supervision of the Saudi Electricity Project Development Company. The SEC also highlighted the fact that national engineering and technical teams participated in the design, execution, and commissioning tests, reflecting the growing local capabilities in the power transmission sector.
