Police in the Canadian city of Vancouver say “a number of people” have been stabbed and the suspect has been shot by officers.

It is unclear how many people were stabbed or their condition.

Witnesses told Canadian media outlets that the incident took place at a convenience store near Vancouver’s central library.

Police have not commented on a motive or what led to the incident.

Citing unnamed witnesses, the CBC reported that at least two people were taken away in ambulances.

Video seen by the Canadian Press reportedly shows police firing their guns over the counter of a convenience store and yelling “move over” as they aim their weapons.

Another video appears to show first responders performing chest compressions on a man.

The BBC has contacted Vancouver’s police department for comment.
