If you’re planning on renovating your Spanish home in order to improve its energy efficiency, Spain has extended its €3,000 subsidy for 2026. Here’s how to claim it.
The Spanish government has confirmed that it will maintain energy saving subsidies for households in 2026.
Grants of up to €3,000 are available to improve the energy efficiency of primary residences in Spain, with a focus on renovating heating systems to reduce bills.

What is it?
The subsidy is essentially a tax deduction of up to €3,000 for energy saving renovations to your home.
The amount of aid is 40 percent of the total cost, with a maximum limit of €3,000 per household, provided that the minimum investment made is at least €1,000.
You apply for the subsidy in your region as each handles its own applications, and although the subsidy will remain in place through 2026, the specific deadlines depend on the region.
In general, calls for applications are opened in stages throughout the year and remain active until the available funds are exhausted. Check with your local authority for confirmation.
Experts recommend periodically checking the official housing or energy ministries for each region.

What are the requirements?
Securing a subsidy does have a few requirements:
– The property must be the applicant’s habitual and permanent residence.
– You must be the owner or a tenant with the owner’s authorisation.
– The work must result in a real improvement in energy efficiency, as evidenced by an accepted energy certificate.
– You must reduce the energy demand for heating and cooling by at least 7 percent.
– You must reduce non-renewable primary energy consumption by 30 percent.
– You must replace or modify elements such as windows, facades or insulation, adapting them to the Technical Building Code (CTE).

How do I apply?
This varies depending on where in Spain you live, but the usual process includes some combination of:
– Submitting the application online or in person, depending on the region
– Providing technical documentation outlining the work carried out or planned
– Justifying the cost of the investment by means of invoices and energy certificates
The system operates on a first-come, first-served basis, until the available funds run out, so it’s recommended that you submit your application as soon as possible when the application period opens in your region.

When do I have to do the renovations by?
The deadline for completing the works to improve energy efficiency may not be more than 12 months from the date the aid is granted.
Note that, in many cases, the grant is awarded once the work has been completed, although some regions allow applications to be submitted in advance to receive the fee before work begins.
Once the works are completed, beneficiaries have three months to justify the aid, providing the corresponding technical documentation, including the energy efficiency certificates before and after the renovations.
