With fewer people planning to travel to the United States in the coming months, ticket prices are falling sharply in Switzerland.

If you have been planning a trip to the United States, now is a good time to book your tickets.

Why is that?

Chalk it up to the political situations across the Atlantic.

Soon after Donald Trump president took office in January 2025 and launched his global trade war, the number of Swiss tourists visiting America (or planning to fly there in the future) has fallen substantially.

According to the International Trade Administration, as related by public broadcaster RTS, in the three-month period between January 1st and March 31st, 20 percent less people from Switzerland visited the USA than during the same period in 2024.

While 60,883 tourists from Switzerland arrived in the United States between January 1st and March 31, 2024, this year the number dropped to 48,712.

Therefore, due to what Swiss media calls the ‘Trump slump’, the national airline, SWISS, is launching special, lower-priced flights to the US this summer to fill its planes.

Price cuts

SWISS website shows lower-than normal fares for US destinations in May.

For instance, a flight from Zurich to New York costs just 520 francs.

With Delta the same flight costs even less: 460 francs.

And between July 20th and 27th, SWISS is selling tickets for this route for just 511 francs — a bargain during the peak travel season.

These deals continue into the fall.

And If you’re willing to make a layover instead of flying nonstop, you can even find tickets for less than 400 francs.

Buyers’ regret

But not everyone is happy about the lower fares.

One passenger, for instance, told Blick newspaper that he had booked a SWISS flight from Zurich to Los Angeles in January, paying over 1,200 francs for his ticket.

Now, however, the same flight costs only 675 francs.

“It is very annoying that SWISS  is penalising us for booking early,” he said.
