A man has been jailed and given a deportation order following his conviction for the rape of an American tourist whilst she was visiting Geneva.
An Algerian national has been sentenced to prison and deportation for the rape of an American tourist in Switzerland in 2024.
While on holiday in Geneva in 2024, the woman, who was visiting the city with her family, was raped by the 30-year-old Algerian national.
Despite his defence arguing that the relations were consensual, on Thursday he was sentenced to eight years in prison.
Once he has served his sentence, he will be deported from Switzerland for a period of twelve years.
The ruling was based primarily on CCTV footage from a hotel lobby. It shows the man following the victim, hugging her and kissing her by force while she is staggering in a state of intoxication.
