The long-expected visit was announced by White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt when talking to reporters on Tuesday.

The trip will be the US president’s second foreign visit of his second term in office, following a planned trip to Rome at the weekend to attend the funeral of Pope Francis.

The expected dates for the visit will be May 13 to May 16, although no further details have been shared.

Leavitt said: “The President looks to strengthen the ties between the United States and these countries which he will be visiting. He’ll be having many bilateral meetings and talks.”

The President has previously said he will visit Saudi Arabia to secure a $1tn investment deal.

Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office earlier this year, Trump said: “It could be next month, maybe a little later. And we’re going to Qatar, also, and also we’re going to possibly a couple of other countries. UAE is very important … so we’ll probably stop at UAE and Qatar”.

Trump, reiterating remarks he made in early March, said his trip to Saudi Arabia would be to seal an agreement to invest upwards of $1tn in the US economy, including purchases of military equipment.

Without sharing specific details, Donald Trump said: “Tremendous jobs will be created in those two or three days”.
