BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 9. Electric buses
that will be used during COP29 will be made available to passengers
once the event concludes, said Tural Orujov, Spokesperson for
Azerbaijan’s Ground Transport Agency, during a media tour along the
COP29 routes, Trend reports.
He mentioned that 160 electric buses have been brought to the
country.
“These buses will be used for the first time during COP29. After
the event, they will be made available for public transport,” he
said.
In just a few days, Baku will host the 29th session of the UN
Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29). The decision to
hold the event in Baku was made at the COP28 plenary session in
Dubai on December 11 last year.
The UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, signed at the
Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro in June 1992, aims to prevent
harmful human interference with the climate system. COP, which
stands for “Conference of Parties,” is the highest decision-making
body overseeing the implementation of the Convention.
The Convention has 198 parties, and unless decided otherwise,
COP is held annually. The first COP took place in March 1995 in
Berlin, and its secretariat is based in Bonn.
