The Tamil Nadu government has accorded administrative sanction to the Chennai Metro Rail to start preparatory work for land acquisition and shifting of utilities at a cost of ₹2,442 crore for executing the 21.76 km stretch from Koyambedu to Pattabiram via Avadi (Outer Ring Road) corridor. The overall cost includes land acquisition, including structure cost, of 2,204 crore, says the order by the Special Initiatives Department.

In May, the State government gave its in-principle approval for providing connectivity of the metro rail from Koyambedu to Pattabiram. The estimated completion cost of the project will be ₹9,928 crore, says a government order issued by the Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Department on April 28.

The project will include a highways component of ₹464 crore for the construction of three flyovers. The government also approved the Detailed Project Report on the project, and recommended the same to the Centre for its approval and funding on an equity sharing basis and for availing loan assistance from bilateral/multilateral funding agencies, the order said.
