Being a young person in Spain can be difficult in the current economic climate. Thankfully there are several aid packages and benefits aimed at under-35s which are available this year.
With rising rents and house prices and an increase in the cost of living, being a young person in Spain is challenging.
These are aid packages and benefits aimed at helping ease the financial burden. They are designed to help facilitate greater independence, improve mobility, boost access to employment, and reduce inequalities between generations and include subsidies, tax incentives and training programmes.
Youth rental bonus
This enables young people to receive up to €250 per month towards renting a primary residence, or a smaller amount for renting a room. The benefit will last for a period of two years for each person, as long as they have a regular source of income. It is available to those aged between 18 and 35 years old who’s annual income is less than €25,000 per year. Their rent also cannot exceed €900 per month in high-demand areas or €600 in the rest of the country. In the case of renting rooms, the limit is €450 per month in high-demand areas and €300 in the rest. A new application period is expected to be announced soon for those that meet the conditions.

Rent-to-own programmes
Rent-to-own programs for subsidised housing are also available and will enable young people to rent at the same time as putting some of this money toward a future purchase. Specific incentives are also available to those who buy homes in rural areas or small towns. “We’re going to create a new rental aid system with an option to buy of almost €30,000 so that young people can live in a permanently protected home for years and eventually acquire it,” Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez announced back in September 2025.
Another aid package of up to €10,800 will be provided for home purchases in rural areas, not exceeding 20 percent of the purchase cost of the home. It will be granted in municipalities with 10,000 inhabitants or fewer. The age limit to apply for both of these programmes is 35.

Discounted travel passes
Discounts on public transport is available for young people with monthly and annual passes at reduced prices. Some allow for unlimited travel on commuter trains, regional trains, and intercity buses for a reduced price, while in many regions, young people receive discounts of up to 70 percent on regular passes.
For example, for those under 26, there is a new €30 a month nationwide travel pass for unlimited travel on many forms of state-owned public transport, regardless of the city or region.
There is also a €10 Renfe season ticket young people under 26 for use on the rail networks.
Support for youth employment
There are specific free and discounted training programmes and active employment policies, which will be improved this year. Companies that hire young people under 35, especially on permanent contracts, will also be able to benefit from social security contribution reductions, encouraging them to hire more.
There is also The Youth Guarantee European initative aimed at young people, aged over 16 and under 30, who are looking for employment, are not studying, in training, or working for themselves or others, and want to achieve their full integration into the labour market. You can find out more about it here and to see if you meet the requirements.

Vocational training
Vocational training and retraining programs are being promoted, which are aimed at unemployed or low-skilled young people, with courses tailored to industries in demand. Back in 2023 Sánchez said the government would invest €1.3 billion in vocational training initiatives, as well as create 824 new training centres for digital skills, 45,000 vocational training places and 1,500 classrooms for technology and entrepreneurship. This year many young people are able to benefit from this.
Grants for studies
Grants for studies will be expanded this year for both university and vocational training. There are also training vouchers available, which allow people to finance specialised courses in languages or digital skills. The period in which to apply for educational scholarships was from April 30th to September 11th 2025, which means that the next round should be in April 2026, so it’s worth finding out which are available to you in that time so that you can get organised ahead of time.
Tax deductions
Young people can also benefit from tax deductions, especially for renting their primary residence, depending on the region they live in. For example in Andalusia there is a 5 percent deduction in personal income tax for people under 35 who acquire a primary residence. In Valencian there is a reduction of the Property Transfer Tax (ITP) to 6 percent for people under 35. In Castilla-La Mancha there is a reduced rate of 4 percent in ITP for young people under 36 years of age and in Galicia there is reduced rate of 3 percent in the ITP for those under 36 years of age who buy a primary residence, provided that certain family income requirements are met.
Youth culture voucher
Spain’s so called Bono Cultural is a €400 voucher available to all those who turn 18 in 2026. €200 is to be used for performing arts, cinema and museums, €100 for books and magazines and €100 for digital or online products. In previous years, the application period has been open from June to October.
