The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has issued a recall of two children’s toys following the discovery of asbestos in the said products.
The recalled children’s toys are as follows:
- 24000867 – Wonder Co Scoop & Play Ice cream sensory bin
- 24004512 – Wonder Co Scoop & Play Dino discovery sensory bin
ACCC Issues Children’s Toy Recall
According to a report by news.com.au, asbestos had been found in samples of a children’s toy that has already been sold in the market for over a year.
The ACCC’s recall announcement advises all those who own the aforementioned products to stop using them immediately.
Those who have purchased the affected products are also encouraged to contact the place where the toy was purchase, present a proof of purchase, and request a refund.
Why the Toys Are Being Recalled
According to the ACCC’s recall announcement, the sand in these products may include asbestos.
Asbestos is a prohibited substance in Australia.
The World Health Organization (WHO) defines asbestos as “a group of mineral fibres with widespread current and historical commercial uses, but which can cause deaths and serious ill-health in workers and other people who are exposed to these fibres.”
“All forms of asbestos have been assessed by WHO as causing several types of cancer, and asbestos also causes chronic respiratory diseases,” WHO added.
