One in three digital nomads in Spain choose Barcelona
The Catalan capital has become a hot spot for digital nomads, according to the latest available data from the Permanent Immigration Observatory.
It revealed that 30 percent of teleworking residence permits, or digital nomad visas, granted last year were for foreigners based in the province of Barcelona.
According to the latest available data from the Permanent Immigration Observatory, in 2024 there was an increase in residence permits for digital nomads, which doubled compared to 2023, from 9,537 to 19,771.
Heavy rains and wind to hit Spain this Tuesday
Spain’s state meteorological agency Aemet has warned of heavy rains affecting almost half of the peninsula starting from this Tuesday December 9th.
“There will be rain in western half of the peninsula from Tuesday or Wednesday”, these being “locally heavy and persistent”, it stated.
The agency has also issued orange and yellow weather alerts for high waves, wind and rain in Galicia, the Asturian and Cantabrian coastlines and the Picos de Europa mountain range.
The weather front will bring persistent and locally heavy rain to western Galicia, as well as very strong gusts of wind throughout the Cantabrian area and the Galician coast, “with gusts likely to locally exceed 100 km/h” , according to Aemet.
Another yellow warning has been issued for fog in Mallorca.

Spanish government to pump €13 billion into new public housing department
Spanish Minister of Housing and Urban Agenda Isabel Rodríguez has announced that €13 billion will be invested over the next ten years in Casa 47 , the new state housing company, with a planned 1.3 billion euros each year, starting in 2026.
In an interview with Catalan newspaper La Vanguardia, Rodríguez assured that the €1.3 billion for next year “are already allocated” : and that “there isn’t problem with the extended budgets”, in reference to the fact that the ruling Socialists have not managed to get a State Budget approved for the past three years.
Casa 47, which was presented this week, will soon launch a public purchase offer of €100 million to increase the public housing stock in Spain.
Rental contracts signed by through Casa 47 can be for up to 75 years in duration, and the rental price cannot exceed 30 percent of the average income of the territory.

Doctors’ strike in Spain begins
Doctors across Spain are called to join a nationwide strike starting on this Tuesday, with four consecutive days of planned strike action against the framework statute of the Ministry of Health.
Medical professionals believe budgetary changes will jeopardise improvements in working conditions and healthcare services, and demand their own participation in creating a system which functions in practice.
There will be minimum medical services in place at hospitals across Spain, but non-urgent operations and consultations will, for the most part, not be carried out.
