Vox politician to be tried for tearing up photo of Civil War victims
The president of the Balearic Islands’ regional parliament, Vox politician Gabriel Le Senne, will be tried for for tearing up a photograph of Republican women executed in 1937 during a plenary session.
The Balearic Islands Provincial Court has rejected Le Senne’s appeal and confirmed he will be stand in court for a hate crime.
The incident took place during a plenary session discussing Spain’s Historic Memory Law, which Vox is opposed to as it argues that it addresses the Spanish Civil War only from the Republican and therefore Socialist perspective.

Spain keeps beating tourism records
Spain received 8.57 million foreign tourists in the fourth month of 2025, 10.1 percent more than the same period last year, data published on Monday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE) shows.
Therefore, Spain’s incessant growth in visitor number continues. So far this year, 25.6 million international tourists visited Spain up to April, 7.1 percent more than in the same period in 2024.
Giant moths proliferate in Spain
Giant migratory moths from North Africa are migrating to the Iberian Peninsula in greater numbers, insects with a wing span of up to 30 centimetres.
The are reports of them appearing in Murcia, Albacete, Zaragoza, Castellón, Barcelona, Cuenca, and Madrid. They’re not dangerous but given their size they are fairly bothersome.
It’s not a plague as such, as experts say it’s a completely cyclical phenomenon but the proliferation has been exacerbated by the wet spring and the arrival of warm air from North Africa.
Romance scam victims in Spain call for greater support
Victims of romance scams in Spain are calling for the crime to be classified in the Penal Code and for a single national reporting protocol to be created.
Romance scams see criminals or organised groups take advantage of lonely or vulnerable people to defraud them financially. According to those who have fallen for these estafas (scams), they’re still “trivialised” by authorities even though victims are left “emotionally devastated”.
Victims also want better training for law enforcement and judicial forces, the creation of victim support units, educational campaigns, greater police coordination, and a centralised registry for reporting these cyber scammers.
Food delivery company Glovo slapped with huge fine
The EU on Monday slapped German food delivery company Delivery Hero and its Spanish subsidiary Glovo with a fine worth €329 million ($376 million) after they violated antitrust rules.
EU regulators concluded Delivery Hero used its stake in Glovo between 2018 and 2022 to limit competition by exchanging sensitive information, agreeing not to poach each other’s employees, and to divide among themselves national markets for food delivery.
“Cartels like this reduce choice for consumers and business partners, reduce opportunities for employees and reduce incentives to compete and innovate,” the European Commission said.
