Ukraine suffered a serious setback in recent days as military sources reported that Russia had made major advances north of Pokrovsk, in the Donetsk region. Forces who spoke to RFE/RL days before the breakthrough described being short on resources and manpower as Russia used small groups of soldiers to push into Ukrainian-held territory.
