Income tax, property transfer tax, wealth tax, deductions for prescription glasses and much more – authorities in the southeastern Spanish region of Murcia have introduced a number of fiscal benefits for residents to enjoy this year.

The Murcia government recently announced a raft of new tax measures in the region, with family-focused deductions and incentives for sustainable vehicles among them.

Introduced as part of the annual budget, this means it will be applicable for the 2025 tax return, which will be filed in spring 2026, at the same time as the Income Tax return known as the declaración de Renta.

IRPF (Income Tax)

With regard to personal income tax, new deductions are being incorporated into the tax return. These include:

Deduction for expenses incurred in the purchase of electric vehicles

Up to €7,000 may be deducted for the purchase of an electric vehicle and up to €4,000 for the installation of the charging point.

Deduction for prescription glasses, contact lenses and cleaning solutions

Two new family-focused deductions with no income requirements are also being introduced. The first is a deduction for expenses arising from the purchase of prescription glasses, contact lenses and cleaning solutions for children under 12 years of age.

A new deduction is also introduced for expenses incurred in the treatment and care of people affected by rare diseases, with the aim of ensuring adequate care for their personal circumstances.

Deduction for sports and health expenses

In order to promote public health, taxpayers will be able to apply a deduction for physical exercise and health-based activities. This includes expenses for gyms and sports centres, training services provided by sports coaches, as well as pilates and yoga, in addition to membership fees for sports federations.

In the case of tax payers over 65 years of age, the deduction may amount to the total amount paid.

Deduction for veterinary expenses

Also new is that taxpayers may apply a deduction for veterinary services provided to their pets.

Regional deduction for disabilities

In relation to the existing deduction for taxpayers with disabilities, the amount of the deduction is increased to €150, and the taxable base limit is extended to €40,000.

Deduction for rental of habitual residence

Likewise, with regard to the application of the deduction for rental of habitual residence, the taxable base limit is extended to €40,000 for people with disabilities and large families.

Property transfer tax

In the area of Property Transfer tax (ITP), the general tax rate applicable to the transfer of property in Murcia is reduced to 7.75 percent.

Wealth tax

The Murcia government has also introduced a rebate into the regional regulation of Wealth Tax so that taxpayers in the region affected by the Temporary Solidarity Tax on Large Fortunes will only pay wealth tax, while that tax remains in force.
