PJM Interconnection LLC, issued an pre-emergency action that is requiring utilities serving the Baltimore, Washington DC and Virginia areas to reduce demand. Such a request typically throttles back usage from businesses and household enrolled in demand response programs, such as by changing the thermostat by a few degrees, turning off or dimming lights in big buildings or turning off equipment. PJM is asking for this over 1-2 hour periods.
