Thailand and Bhutan strengthen sustainable tourism ties through a high-level delegation visit, emphasizing shared learning, joint product development, and responsible tourism under the “Two countries, One destination” framework.

Strengthening Thailand-Bhutan Tourism Ties

On 4 July 2025, Thailand and Bhutan advanced their sustainable tourism partnership. The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) hosted a Bhutanese delegation from the Department of Tourism and the Association of Bhutanese Tour Operators from 20 to 23 June 2025. This visit highlighted Thai sustainability practices, reinforcing their commitment under the “Two countries, One destination” framework for shared learning and joint product development.

Key Meetings and Presentations

The delegation was welcomed by TAT officials, including Deputy Governor Ms. Pattaraanong Na Chiangmai. TAT showcased Thailand’s sustainable tourism strategies, aligning with global benchmarks like the Global Sustainable Tourism Council standards. They presented successful Thai business initiatives, such as The Westin Grande Sukhumvit, recognized with the Green Hotel Standard Plus certification for 2024–2027.

Exploring Practical Models in Nan

From 21 to 23 June, the delegation visited Nan province for practical insights into sustainable tourism. They met with Mrs. Wilaiwan Budasa, discussing inclusive tourism development. The tour included certified establishments, enriching knowledge on eco-friendly operations. A tram tour of Nan Old Town showcased its sustainable urban development, emphasizing the collaboration that began at the Thailand Travel Mart Plus 2025.
