Minimum services of around 90% for easyJet strike
Spain’s Ministry of Transport has established that 80 to 90 percent of cabin crew for low-cost airline easyJet must work despite the three-day strike they announced at Barcelona, Málaga, Alicante and Palma airports, a stoppage scheduled to start today Wednesday June 25th.
“As expected based on past actions, the Ministry of Transport’s resolution not only limits but directly denies our right to strike,” criticizes Pier Luigi Copello, general secretary of USO, the trade union representing easyJet staff.

Spain’s king and queen booed in Catalonia
King Felipe and Queen Letizia have been met with boos and protests during their visit to the Montserrat Monastery, where they came to celebrate the 1,000th anniversary of its founding.
In fact, the mobilisation called by the ANC (Catalan National Assembly) forced the monarchs to modify their planned route.
During the protest, there were some tense moments and shoving between the demonstrators and the Mossos d’Esquadra (Catalan Police), who intervened to maintain the police line and remove demonstrators’ pro-Catalan independence flags.
Spain to release 28 million tiger mosquitoes
Spanish authorities are looking to release millions of sterile tiger mosquitoes into the air as a means of extinguishing an invasive species which is becoming increasingly prevalent in parts of the country and carries diseases including dengue, Zika and chikungunya.
The Valencia region, in particular Elche, is where so far 2.4 million male tiger mosquitoes which don’t bite have been released, and this mission will continue throughout the eastern region until 2026.

Microsoft to open tech centre in Valencia
Valencia mayor María José Catalá has announced that tech giant Microsoft will open a huge centre for the development and testing of technology applied to sports, entertainment and health.
The chosen location is La Harinera building, a former flour factory in the city’s Grao neighbourhood.
Other huge names in the tech business such as IBM and Amazon have also chosen Spain in recent years to set up data centres in particular, helping to create thousands of new jobs.
